Understanding Gold Units & Pricing in Nepal (सुनको मापन र भाउ निर्धारण)
In Nepal, precious metals are traditionally measured using the South Asian Tola (तोला) unit:
- 1 Tola (तोला) = 11.6638 Grams (~11.664 g)
- 10 Grams = 0.85735 Tola (Standard retail jeweler weight)
- Fine Gold (छापावाल सुन): 24 Karat purity (99.9% pure gold / Hallmark standard), bearing the highest market value.
- Tejabi Gold (तेजाबी सुन): 22 Karat purity (99.5% pure gold), officially benchmarked at Rs. 700 per tola less than Fine Gold.
- Market Fixing: Daily prices are determined every morning Sunday through Friday by FeNeGoSiDA based on international London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) spot rates, import duty tariff rates set by the Ministry of Finance, and USD/NPR foreign exchange rates from Nepal Rastra Bank.
