How to Convert Nepali Date (BS) to English Date (AD)

Learn how Bikram Sambat dates are mathematically and astronomically converted into Gregorian AD dates with zero approximation errors.

Converting a Nepali Bikram Sambat (BS) date to an English Gregorian (AD) date cannot be performed by simply subtracting 56 or 57 years. Because Nepali month days fluctuate from year to year, a naive subtraction creates errors of 1 to 3 days.

The correct algorithmic approach relies on cumulative elapsed solar days from a known reference anchor point. In the nepali_kit engine, the anchor date is Baisakh 1, 1975 BS, which precisely correlates to April 13, 1918 AD.

To convert any BS date: first, the algorithm calculates total days elapsed from 1975-01-01 to the target BS date using the verified month tables. Second, those total days are added to the Gregorian epoch anchor (1918-04-13).

Using our interactive BS to AD converter, you can effortlessly convert any date within the 125-year verified span (1975 to 2099 BS) in real time.
